Setete will leave together with the association’s finance manager Thabiso Kebotsamang following the non-renewal of their employment contracts. “It is true his (Setete) contract has not been renewed as such he will leave the employ of the FA on the 30th of November.

The finance manager’s contract has not been renewed as well,” BFA chief executive officer (BFA) Goabaone Taylor told The Monitor Sport yesterday. Taylor would not be drawn into discussing reasons why Setete and Kebotsamang are leaving. “The reasons for the non-renewal of their contracts are confidential and I would like that to be respected.” Setete, who is one of the country’s well known football administrators, joined the association as the competitions and regions manager in 2017. His departure from the association will come as shock to many because he was widely viewed as one of the key drivers of the association’s football transformation agenda.

Kebotsamang has also been with the association for some time.

At one point he was appointed the acting CEO following the unceremonious departure of Mfolo Mfolo. While Setete would not be reached for comment Kebotsamang said that he would neither confirm nor deny that he is leaving the association. “All inquiries relating to my contract situation should be directed to the CEO,” he said. More people are expected to follow Setete and Kebotsamang out of Lekidi as the BFA restructures into a leaner entity.

The restructuring exercise, which is expected to lead to job losses, has been on the agenda of the association for over a year but was halted as a result of the State of Public Emergency (SoE) which ended in September. Under the SoE retrenchments were deemed illegal.
