The match was played at the old Francistown Stadium before a cheerful home crowd. Chadibe looked more assured for the entire match thanks to the vast experience that they had against their opponents.

The hosts boasted several former premier league players among them Batisani Josiah, Bongani Ranji and Ogomoditse Bauleni in their line-up. In the first half, the ball was hardly on the ground because of the challenges posed by a water soaked pitch. The difficulty for the visitors in the first half was that they preferred caution over being brave. They enjoyed much possession in their own half. The first chance of the match fell to Chadibe’s Themba Lucky in the 23rd minute. Lucky, who impressed everyone with his skills and intelligence, ballooned his effort from close range. Five minutes later, Josiah would then send his shot inches wide after he was given much space to shoot from within the goal area. In the first half Sankoyo only managed once to convincingly break a significantly more organised Chadibe defence.

That was in the 30th minute when, midfielder Thato Salepito’s effort was parried back into play by Chadibe goal minder Rapelang Bayani who pulled two crucial saves in the second half. The only goal of the match came in 38th minute when Robert Sedimo fired home from close range after he was set up by an enterprising Josiah. In the second half, Sankoyo emerged a more rejuvenated side and could have found the equaliser in the 56th minute but Chadibe goalie Rapelang, sprawled to his left and produced a two-handed save from Oamogetse Johnson’s well taken shot.

In the 80th minute, Chadibe had a great chance to double the lead but Lucky’s downward header at the far post was acrobatically dealt with by Sankoyo goalkeeper Bothata Phetodi. The dying minutes of the second half were dull as players could not assert themselves owing to patches of water on the pitch. In the referee’s optional time, Thato Obeetswe sent in a looping cross from the right but substitute Kgakgamatso Juta failed to connect with the goalkeeper the only man to beat.
