The event, which has become popular with the elderly, was last held in 2019 before the outbreak of COVID-19 forced music festivals blackout. The festival, which features legendary South African Kwaito musicians Mdu Masilela and Alaska against Botswana’s own T.H.A.B.O and Exodus will be held at Notwane Lifestyle Club on November 26.

South African self-proclaimed King of Kwaito, Arthur Mafokate, will also perform as a guest alongside her daughter, DJ Owani who was recently awarded the Best Amapiano Female DJ Act during the first Amapiano awards ceremony in South Africa. With just a week before the event, organisers of the event held a press conference alongside their sponsors where they detailed preparations for the festivals.

Festival organiser and music promoter, Lekopanye ‘Lecco’ Kenosi of Leccotainment Promotions said preparations are in full swing for the music show and encouraged mature patrons to start ‘wiping off’ their dancing shoes. Lecco, as he is commonly known in the music industry, expressed his delight at the sponsors who have come on board to support his concert.

The sponsors for the festival include Sefalana Group, Air Botswana, Notwane Lifestyle Club and Radial Security Systems. “Everything is in order. I want to thank our sponsors, Air Botswana, Sefalana, Radial Security and Notwane Lifestyle club. Legends in Concert is about creating memories and this is exactly what we intend to do. We want to create memories for the grown and sexy,” said Lecco. The event sponsors were also delighted to be part of the music festival. Sefalana Group representative Paul Ramoloi said it is no surprise that they are part of this concert as the Group is committed to empowering artists. “It is part of our social responsibility that we empower the sector, which was among the worst hit by COVID-19. We are excited to be part and parcel of this concert,” said Ramoloi.

Air Botswana marketing manager Mogolo Mokgosi said the company takes Corporate Social Responsibility very seriously, and being part of the Legends in Concert festival illustrates that commitment. “Air Botswana brings essential connectivity between urban centres enabling commerce and tourism to flourish. We are happy to extend a helping hand and support local entrepreneurs to bring international artists from South Africa,” she said. Olebpogeng Pelonomi from Radial Security said they are ready to maintain the event’s record of free criminal incidents. He said they will deploy over 50 security guards plus bouncers to the event.

For his part, Moitshephi Lekalake who co-owns Notwane Lifestyle Club said while the venue has always created a platform for local artists to express their talent, the event will open a new marketing opportunity for a slightly different sector and audience that has not patronised with before.
