Dube Feels Unappreciated By BNSC

He told Sport Monitor that over the years he had to support himself unlike other athletes who received support from the BNSC. “I have been supporting myself my entire life. It was hard but I had to find a way. Even at tertiary school, I was sponsoring myself while my team mates were sent abroad by the BNSC. I do not know if it is bad luck or the system is rejecting me.
I am always getting a thank you while other people are appreciated and given posts,” he said. Dube said he was even surprised to be inducted into the Hall of Fame because he long retired in 2010. The former 800m specialist said he was not aware of the criteria used to select the inductees.
Dube said he had thought he would be inducted earlier but when it took longer to happen, he gave up. “I am happy to have finally been inducted. They have realised that I exist and I have done a lot for sport,” he said. Dube was the first Motswana to qualify for the Olympic Games finals held in Sydney, Australia in 2000. After retirement from sport, Dube served as the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) vice president. He was also appointed manager of Team Botswana to the Africa Youth Championships and of the athletics team to the Rio 2016. Another inductee is Boyce Sebetlela, a retired volleyball player. After retirement, he served as volleyball president.
He then later appointed as the BNSC board chairperson. During his tenure, he spearheaded the BNSC strategic plan, Vision 2028, which remains it’s guiding document to date. Sebetlela also served in the AUSC Region 5 secretariat executive committee. Freedom Diraditsile, former netball player from 1987 until 2012 was also inducted. During her career, she led BDF Cats to numerous accolades nationaly. She has also played for the national team and captained the team for many years. Diraditsile also held numerous officiating positions in netball and has been a committee member at various levels. Another inductee is Letsholo Letsholo who played a pivotal role in positioning the BAA to be one of the best associations in the country.
He has been involved in sport administration for over 27 years, specialising in the areas of finance, administration and strategic planning.
