Lotty faces disciplinary action

This comes after the mayor for Gaborone City Council (GCC), Father Maphongo reported the trio to the party for giving him a hard time to work well at the city council. The mayor is fed up and ready to quit if no action is taken against the ‘unruly’ trio, a source said.
Recently, the councillors were allegedly kicked out of a council meeting after they intended to pass a motion of no confidence against the mayor. Maphongo is said to have told some party members that he is ready to resign from the party if no action is taken against the said councillors.
However, when contacted for comment, Manyapetsa dismissed the news as social media rumours.
“I have not been suspended nor been summoned for any disciplinary hearing. It is all falsehoods peddled by political opponents. There is no reason I would be disciplined as I have been in a sickbed for two months now. I am currently preparing for a big rally in Gaborone (which is) coming soon,” he said.
For his part, BDP spokesperson, Kagelelo Kentse confirmed that there is a complaint that has been filed against Manyapetsa and others.
“I do not remember the number properly if they are not three or two. I cannot go into details of the matter. Those councillors are not suspended rather they will appear before the disciplinary hearing,” Kentse said in an interview on Thursday.
Currently, four councillors; Collen Mochotlhi, Slumber Mokgosi, Seilatsatsi Kgokong and Molemisi Motsewabathata are already on suspension from the ruling party.
They are alleged to have committed the following offences against the rules and the general code of conduct of the BDP: “Behaving in a grossly disorderly and unruly manner that might put the party name into disrepute contrary to general code of conduct number five, behaving in a manner calculated to bring the party name into disrepute contrary to the general code of conduct of party number 11, contemptuous behaviour towards party leadership and other members. As a member, you were obliged to abide by the constitution, rules and regulations of the party, and expected to promote its philosophy, policies and programmes as stated, particularly in article 14 subsection one and two thereof.”
