Miss Francistown back with a twist

 

The pageant will be held with an interesting twist as it will unveil the first ever Junior Miss Francistown to be held on November 20, 2021.

According to the event coordinator, Lucia Matumba, Miss Francistown 2021 is divided into two categories, being the newly introduced Junior Miss Francistown and Miss Francistown.

She stated that the double pageantry event will be divided into a morning and evening sessions and prior to the event; each participant will make a presentation on their community outreach project of their choice.

Matumba, who is also a renowned fashion designer, told Arts & Culture that they have 11 participants aged between five and 15 for the Junior Miss Francistown and 10 contestants aged between 16 and 27 competing under Miss Francistown. She added that the pageants will develop fashion and modeling industry in the second city.

Matumba also indicated that the objectives of the pageantry include amongst others nurturing talent from grassroots and the empowerment of the girl-child. Miss Francistown and Junior Miss Francistown will be held under the theme; ‘I am a change agent’.

“The theme intends to celebrate young women and tries to address the challenges and negative perceptions encountered by a girl-child,” Matumba said.

Furthermore, the fashion designer said that contestants will be given motivational talks which will instill the spirit of self-reliance. She added that their goal is to instill confidence and ambition in their contestants for them to become ambassadors of goodwill and plant what they have learnt back into the Francistown community.



“We also intend to give the audience a spectacular night show through the collaboration of local fashion designers so that the beauties can showcase their modeling talents during four rounds of ramp walk. Even though there are two queens crowned during the double show, we believe that everyone is a winner therefore we are going to prepare additional awards to benefit more participants, “Matumba added.

According to Matumba, beauty queens will walk away with P4,000, P3,000, and P2,500 prize money for the queen, first and second princesses respectively. The event will be sponsored by Urban World Modeling and Pageantry Academy, Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, Selepa Hotel, CAAB and Kanana Guest House.
