Letlhakeng police are investigating the case after two bodies were discovered early morning at Ditshegwane, a village in Kweneng District, in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.

Superintendent Mogomotsi Kesupile, Letlhakeng Police Station commander, told Mmegi that they believe the 39-year-old man, who was found hanging from a tree, may have killed his 36-year-old girlfriend before committing suicide.

Kesupile said at around 5:30am, a passerby saw a man hanging from a tree in a yard and reported the matter to the police.

"When still investigating the matter we received a report that a woman believed to be his girlfriend was found lifeless lying in a pool of blood with her throat slashed with a sharp object. We suspect that the boyfriend stabbed his girlfriend to death before fleeing the scene and committed suicide," he said.

Kesupile said their investigations revealed that the duo was last seen together at a certain bar in the village out for entertainment and drinks following a misunderstanding earlier on.

"When searching his pair of trousers we recovered a knife with blood, hence we suspect he might have used it to stab her to death. Crimes of passion remain a concern and this happens when the boyfriend's previous murder case of his ex-girlfriend had gone for committal at the High Court for trial," he said.
