Furious son ‘threatens to kill mother’, labels her witch

The State alleges that Letlhogonolo Isaiah threatened to kill Chandapiwa Isaiah on November 4,2021 at Mhatane settlement.
He allegedly uttered the words “lebitla la gago le epilwe gale. Ke tlile go go bolaya” meaning “your grave is already dug. I am going to kill you”, or words to that effect.
The son’s alleged wayward behaviour led Letlhogonolo to appear before Magistrate Thabang Chokwe on Monday.
When Letlhogonolo was arraigned in court, Inspector Kenneth Edward made an application for Letlhogonolo to be remanded in custody because investigations in the matter are still at their initial stages.
Edward called the investigations officer (IO) Sub-inspector Fanilo Manyapedza to advance reasons why Letlhogolo should be remanded in custody.
Manyapedza told the court that the accused furiously persisted with threats to kill his mother despite efforts to resolve the matter amicably.
“The accused’s relatives were called to diffuse the situation but their efforts bore no fruits as the accused kept on threatening to kill his mother. We as such fear that he may complete his mission of killing his mother and thereafter, commit suicide after killing his mother. We also fear for the safety of the accused’s mother if he is granted bail. We are yet to take statements from potential witnesses, some of whom are his relatives,” said Manyapedza.
When Letlhogonolo’s turn to cross-examine the IO came pertaining to why he should not be remanded in custody, Letlhogonolo said: “I never threatened to kill my mother. I only told her that she was bewitching me, that is why my life is in a mess.”
Before the case was adjourned, Chokwe granted Letlhogonolo bail on condition that he binds himself with P1,000, bring two sureties who shall each bind themselves with P1,000, report himself at Mhatane police post fortnightly between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm, not to be reasonably suspected of having committed any offence whilst on bail, not interfere with potential State witnesses, stay 200 metres away from his mother and her place until the matter is finalised and appear in court as and when required to do so.
