Despite the men and women in navy blue being in a sour mood upping their game in the fight against armed robberies owing to a spate of such attacks, their message seems to be ignored as thieves continue to target businesses to steal money.

Tlokweng police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest suspects in the latest incident after they stole cash and alcoholic beverages.

Confirming the case, Tlokweng Police Station commander, superintendent Unoziba Rari said both robberies occurred at around 2000hrs when the two wholesalers were about to close business for the day.

“The first incident occurred on Friday at 8pm when Trans Wholesale was about to close. Then, four masked armed men attacked the shop, holding something like a pistol firing shots and proceeding to collect large amounts of money from the cash register. They also stole wines and escaped the scene without leaving any trace of their identities,” Rari said.

He added a huge sum of cash is alleged to have been stolen. He said it is reported that the armed robbers made off with money from several cash registers that held profits for the day. However, the station head said investigations into the matter were ongoing to ascertain the total amount of money stolen.

Rari said even though there were gunshots they have since discovered that something pistol-like was used.

“When carrying out our preliminary investigations we could not find any cartridge to confirm that indeed there were gunshots. We suspect that the armed robbers might have used a pellet gun,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rari told The Monitor they were investigating a similar incident in which four masked men attacked employees of One-Stop liquor wholesale. He said the suspects threatened the staff with a big log just before they made off with cash amounting to P64,000.

“This incident also occurred at 8pm when the wholesaler was preparing to close. No one was injured and investigations into the matter are ongoing to locate and arrest the unidentified suspects. Even in this incident, the criminals stole alcoholic beverages,” he added.

Armed robberies have resurfaced and are recurring, keeping the police on their toes as it appears that the criminals are adamant of their mission to target businesses and rob them, mostly at gunpoint.

The police have expressed concern about this trend as armed criminals continue to stage heists overpowering security guards and make off with large sums of money.
