Molosi reflects on Dithunya Tsa Rona win

Dithunya Tsa Rona is a story by Jenny Ledikwe and Isaac Leano Marumo and follows a social worker investigating teen pregnancies in a rural African village. She stops at nothing, including fighting her inner-demons, to protect children from abuse.

The lead role is played by Merciah Bonolo Moletsane who delivers a powerful performance as a survivor of sexual assault. The most recognisable name in the cast is Molosi who plays Kago Kgomo.

“I got cast in Dithunya tsa Rona last year when I was in the UK. The concept credit that we got as the Upright African Movement is because we initially conceptualised the docudrama with the director,” Molosi told Arts & Culture in an interview. Molosi said his experience on the set of Dithunya was special because it gave him the chance to work with Kgomotso Tshwenyego again. “She always brings so many skills to the set. Everyone worked very hard and especially our lead actor Merciah Bonolo Moletsane who had a demanding emotional role,” he highlighted.

Molosi said this win shows that there is an appetite for Botswana content globally and validates all the risks everyone took for this film to happen. “Shortly after I got cast, the director told us that the project would be for Stepping Stones International, which made it more special. I cannot speak about the fundraising campaign because I only found out about it when a friend in the US wanted to donate. But I know that SSI does excellent work for our communities,” he concluded.

Molosi’s film career began in 2007 when he was cast in Green Zone opposite Matt Damon and has since had a career that included A United Kingdom opposite Academy Award winner Rosamund Pike. He was most recently in (2064 ????), a queer love story that was nominated for the Grand Prix in Sweden and made the film eligible for an Oscar nomination.
