Weeks later after the tragic incident on October 8, 2021, Thatayaone Kaowe is still at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) fighting for her life after sustaining serious head injuries following her former boyfriend, Gofaone Hector Kololo's attempt on her life. While Kololo's attempt on Kaowe's life did not pan out, her new love interest, Baitemi Abide was, however, not spared.

Asked about the condition of the victim, the investigator in the case, the district Crime Investigation Department (CID) officer, detective superintendent Obert Stone told The Monitor that Kaowe is still hospitalised and fighting for life at NRH. “The surviving victim sustained terrible head injuries and is recuperating slowly. She cannot talk properly and does not even remember what really transpired,” Stone said. Stone stated that the 35-year-old Kololo is still remanded in custody at the Francistown State Prison and will appear for a bail hearing on October 28 before the Bobonong Magistrates Court where he will face two counts, one of murder and the other of attempted murder.

On the day of the incident, Kaowe together with her friends had visited Abide at Tsetsejwe village and later that night decided to return to her abode (with Abide) to Moletemane village, something that her former boyfriend, Kololo did not take kindly to. Later at night, Kololo went to Kaowe’s house at Moletemane teacher’s quarters and attacked the new couple, as gunshots were heard

. On the scene, Kololo shot Adibe killing him instantly and leaving Kaowe with gunshot wounds. For years, murder cases involving intimate partners, especially boyfriends, girlfriends and exes have given the country nightmares as dozens of women continue to lose their lives at the hands of their supposed lovers.
