Bathusi says she is happy with the numbers she got and it really shows that women can make it since men are not used to contesting with women for certain positions, especially high ones. For her, the result shows that slowly members are starting to have confidence in women and she believes that next time she can stand and win.

The Lucas team made a clean sweep of the elections. They comprised the positions of chairperson won by former Member of Parliament for Ramotswa Samuel Rantuana who got 521 votes beating Stephen Makhura who gaenered 430, secretary-general went to Goretetse Kekgonegile with 640 votes beating Moncho Moncho (235) and Morwadi Morwadi (85). For deputy secretary-general, Refilwe Aphiri (371) lost to Tebogo Molefe (576) and treasurer seat went to Oral Mosedame (550) who won against Samuel Mphoyakgosi (299). Both BCP president Dumelang Saleshando and information and publicity contestant, Professor Mpho Pheko were unopposed. The Bathusi team lost all the seats. “I am really proud of myself as a woman because I have proven to other women that we can do it. Even the numbers I got are amazing.

My team and I have no problem with the results at all and we accept them. It’s the BCP that has won and now it is time for all of us to work for the party tirelessly and unite more than before.

Therefore, I ask all the members who had supported my team to move forward in building the party. Each team was working hard to win and the numbers do tell, and I have no complaints at all,” Bathusi said. When welcoming the new central committee members, BCP president Dumelang Saleshando said now the new members must know that there is no time to rest in politics. “Already, we have by-election issues that must be attended to, together with other opposition members. Again we have a suggestion box, which is a questionnaire for BCP members on what they want to be done.

The work has begun and we should all start working.”
