Galaxy beat Simba 3-1 in Tanzania and achieved a rare feat, advancing to the group stages of the continental competition for the first time in their history.

After losing 2-0 at home in the first leg, all odds appeared to be stacked against them considering Simba’s resilience in their home ground. They went to the halftime break trailing a goal but managed to turn things around in the second half to score three vital goals. Wendel Rudath scored a brace before midfielder, Gape Mohutsiwa scored the third to send Galaxy to the big stage of the competition.

They will join the likes of defending champions, Al Ahly, Raja Casablanca of Morocco and Atletico Petroleos among others in the next stage. The CAF Champions League milestone comes despite the fact Galaxy last played league matches in march last year. They become the second Botswana team to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League in history after Township Rollers did it few years ago. They advance through an away goal rule after the two sides were tied at 3-3 aggregate score.

Meanwhile Orapa United were left heartbroken after a last minute goal sent them crashing out of the CAF Confederations Cup by Cameroonian side, Coton Sport on Saturday. The two sides were tied at 2-2 aggregate score, with the hosts now advancing to the next stage because of the away goal rule.

The Ostriches traveled to Cameroon with a slender advantage after winning 2-1 at home last week in the first leg of the competition. However they lost 1-0 in Cameroon on Saturday, ending their campaign in the continental competition.
