When the accused, Kago Phofuetsile, appeared before Magistrate Thabang Chokwe on Monday this week, the prosecution said that the trial dates set for March 7, 8, 22 and 24 in 2022 were still suitable for the prosecution.

Phofuetsile is accused of three counts of stealing by a person employed in the public service.

In the first count, the State alleges that Phofuetsile stole P56,000 being the property of the government of the Republic of Botswana on March 11, 2011 when he was employed by the National Aids Coordinating Agency (NACA), now known as National Aids and Health Promotions Agency (NAHPA) as a District Grants Officer.

The State alleges that the former NACA officer stole P170,000 and P400,000 on June 6, 2011 and June 7, 2011 in the second and third counts respectively.

The State further alleges that Phofuetsile cumulatively stole P626,000

Phofuetsile was previously granted bail on condition that he should appear in court as and when required to do so, not interfere with witnesses, not commit any further offences and bind himself with P5,000.
