Miss Hope pageants host Trashion show

In an interview with the pageantry organiser, Tlhatlogo Sera Madiba, she said Trashion show features the fashion of recycled material designs, body paintings and ramp walking by contestants. She explained that Hope Pageants in Botswana decided to promote waste material recycling and creative thinking and problem solving.
The event is themed, 'Designs from trash to save the planet'. “The aim is for contestants to design their own clothes using trash, as a way of instilling the importance of trash to the community or fashion world to save the planet. The mandate is for parents, relatives or close people to work together to get design to their clothes, create room of bonding and creativity while valuing small things considered unworthy like trash.
The winners will be given the creative and model awards,” she said. Madiba said the contestants will be judged on creativity from best attire from the trash designs. She added that they will judge them looking at colour and designs related to the personality of contestants. She also said contestants will be interviewed based on what inspired their outfits and will be judged based on the relevance of the trash, colour, design and their personality. Hope Pageant is a Christian-based pageant focusing on community service.
The pageantry is a system for women and children who are passionate about making a significant difference in their communities, touching the lives of others and being a positive role model. She stated that the pageant emphasises not only on physical attributes like height or body shape. “The Hope journey starts with auditions and culminates at an international event held annually in Cape Town, South Africa. Contestants are required to have a community focused project that will eventually contribute a large percentage of the final score they get for crowning,” she said. She said it allocates 50% of the finalists’ scores towards interview judging with a focus on their character, values and community projects during their period of being a finalist. The idea started after Ingrid Burger founded her project, Acting Hope, at the beginning of 2012.
Acting Hope is a registered charity mainly using drama as a therapy in healing broken children and giving hope and confidence to children of communities in South Africa.
Acting Hope has been extremely successful in its growth, consisting of child volunteers using their own talents as well as to implement various sustainable projects throughout the communities of South Africa. Categories for Hope Pageants are Miss Pre-Teen Hope (9-13), Miss Teen Hope (14-18) and Miss Hope (19-27 single ladies).
