M Cakes more than just cakes

M Cakes is a home based youthful bakery shop producing bread products as a specialty listing. It offers baked products like cakes, bread rolls, and desserts, loafs, pizzas, cookies, pastry and muffins. M Cakes is a collaboration between highly active, energetic and experienced entrepreneurs Thapelo Maswe and Boago Thato Lenong.
The two are based in Mogoditshane Block 5 and their business started last year September. “I started this business was when I was still staying at Digawana and at the time COVID-19 was still rampant and I realised that most of the residents there had shortage of bread. I then decided to start making pizzas, scones, cakes and desserts to accommodate people at Digawana.
In November I relocated to Gaborone because most of my customers especially those who wanted cakes were from here,” Maswe recalled in an interview with Arts & Culture. Maswe admitted that what really inspired him is the love he has always had for art. He revealed that from his childhood days he was known for drawing and loved using his hands to craft. “So when I completed my school in 2013 I decided to transfer my art skills to food, something I had never done. From there I made a lot of research in the Internet in a self taught exercise.
I started experimenting at home and sought reviews and critics from people,” he further revealed. Maswe added that after working on jobs which were related to what he does like at Manong Game Lodge and Cappuccinos, his knowledge grew. He said at the moment the business is growing and he is fully getting support from Batswana. He said they have even applied for the Youth Development Fund and hopefully they will be successful.
