In a circular to affiliates signed by BFA chief executive officer (CEO) Goabaone Taylor, the delegates will hold a physical meeting following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. “The State of Emergency came to an end on September 30, 2021. There are no longer restrictions on travel and physical meetings. The BFA and its members have not met physically in two years and in light of the above, a physical meeting would be appropriate to prepare for the return of football activities,” the circular reads.

The decision was taken following a meeting of the National Executive Committee last week. The OGA was scheduled for tomorrow but a decision was taken to push it to next month. It was initially supposed to be a virtual meeting but with restrictions lifted the BFA will have a physical meeting in 24 months. While fireworks would have been expected at the general assembly, ambers have died down in recent days, after Nicholas Zakhem toned on his public criticism of the association. Both Letshwiti and Zakhem attended the NEC meeting and the two were pictured together during the Orapa United and Coton Sport CAF Confederations Cup. Zakhem indicated he is working well with Letshwiti as they thrive "for a better football". “We are both striving for a better football although we might differ in the implementation methods.

We have an undertaking from the leadership that BFL autonomy will always be respected. I wish to add that the president and all NEC members have been supportive to us to enable the start of the season on October 30. It is now up to us as shareholders to team up and move the game to a higher level on and off the pitch,” Zakhem said. Meanwhile, Zakhem said preparations for the start of the season next weekend are going well. The league was supposed to start today but had to be pushed to October 30 to allow players and technical staff to be vaccinated. “The vaccination is going very well and hopefully will be done either today (Thursday) or latest thing tomorrow (Friday).

The overall preparation is going well in a steady manner. Teams are working on their fitness and logistics. The secretariat is putting the final touches on operation matters. I can say we are ready to start on the 30th without further delays,” Zakhem said. He said they have secured various sponsorship deals, which will be communicated in due course.
