The alleged conman, Karabo Makhombe (28) of Selebi-Phikwe, landed in hot soup after he allegedly defrauded Kesentseng Jackson of the said amount. It is alleged that Makhombe unlawfully obtained P200,000 from Jackson by falsely claiming that he was an employee of Bamangwato Toyota as such was better placed to assist Jackson with the purchase of vehicles when in fact, he was not an employee of the company while he knew was not.

This happened on February 11, 2021, in Francistown, When Makhombe appeared before the senior Magistrate Thapelo Buang on Friday, the prosecution applied for his remand in custody to allow the police to carry out their investigations without any possible interference from the accused. Mompoloki Mabalane from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions requested that the plea be reserved "because investigations are still at their initial stages.

Also, by consensus, we have agreed with the defence counsel that this matter shall be called on October 28 for a status update on which date we will not oppose the accused being granted bail".

The defence attorney Oratile Koonne then confirmed what the prosecution had said. Magistrate Buang remanded the accused in custody as per the application of the prosecution. The matter was set down for status update on October 28.
