Court reserves hyped gay rights judgement

CoA Judge president, Ian Kirby told Court that he could not promise when the judgement will be ready since it’s a Constitutional and human rights issue.
“The case is of international interest and a Constitutional matter, it needs much consideration. I cannot promise when the judgment will be ready,” he said.
The case is an appeal by the government after, Letsweletse Motshediemang a gay man in 2019 fought and won the case when the High Court decriminalised same sex sexual conduct.
The Lesbians, Gays and Bisexual of Botswana (LEGABIBO) support him as friends of the court.
The appeal is before a bench comprising Chief Justice, Terrence Rannowane, Justices Kirby, Isaac Lesetedi, Monametsi Gaongalelwe and Mercy Garekwe.
