Mogoditshane Police Probe Matebeleng Murder

Mogoditshane Police station commander, superintendent Russ Letsebe said the murder incident occurred on Saturday at around 10pm. He stated that police were still putting the pieces together to establish what transpired. “Through our preliminary investigations, we have established that the suspect, in his 20s, pounced on his sister quarrelling with her boyfriend.
It is alleged that the suspect who is still on the run tried to intervene but ended up stabbing the boyfriend, 33, to death with a sharp object. Investigations on the matter are ongoing to establish what transpired, locate and arrest the suspect,” he said He said the matter was reported to the police who rushed to the scene and took the deceased to the clinic whereupon arrival was certified dead by doctors. Letsebe said after committing the offence, the known suspect allegedly escaped the crime scene and is still on the run.
However, Letsebe said they are hopeful they will soon arrest the suspect. He said the increase in the number of murder cases as a result of petty issues, which should easily be avoided, continue to worry them. “Even though we are yet to establish what the misunderstanding was all about amongst these lads, petty issues that always lead to deaths remain a concern. These are arguments during beer drinking sprees, fights over money and arguments of partners in love. We continue to lose lives over arguments that could have been avoided,” he said. Letsebe pleaded with members of the public to learn to control their anger and to avoid settling issues through violence.
The police officer further stated that through community forums , the police have over the years been conducting awareness campaigns urging people to respect the sanctity of life but sadly their efforts have fallen on deaf ears. He further applauded imbibers to have been on their best behaviour on Saturday at Franco’s music festival that was held at Trekkers nightclub. Letsebe said usually when such events are held in his policing area, they record several rape and date rape cases and other violent crimes. “The excitement amongst imbibers is too much. Even though they were excited, they were on their best behaviour because we have not registered even a single case.
However, police are still battling with large crowds of people indulging in alcohol with anti-social distancing behaviour in open spaces, car washes and other alcohol businesses,” he said.
