The Premier League giants had three vacant spots reserved for foreign players after South African midfielder, Kamogelo Matsabu left the club. Matsabu has reportedly secured a job outside football in his country. Few weeks back, the club’s chief executive officer (CEO), Bennett Mamelodi promised the supporters a ‘blockbuster’ signing.

Today, Mamelodi announced the signing of Jean Bertrand Iradukunda from Gasogi United in Rwanda, Mohamed Diallo (Mali) from Futuro Kings FC in Equatorial Guinea, and Aaron Marc Dion from CF Zoe in Cote Di Ivoire. “26-year-old Jean Bertrand Iradukunda is currently with the Rwanda senior national team and is vying for his 30th cap in the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Uganda on Thursday. Incidentally, this match will be officiated by our very own Joshua Bondo in Kigali. Jean Bertrand has represented Rwanda at U-17 (4 caps), U-20 (4 caps) and U-23 (5 caps) level. He will report for duty after the FIFA week,” Mamelodi announced on the club’s website yesterday.

The news are expected to excite Rollers supporters who have been waiting for the club to fill the gap left by Tumisang Orebonye who is now plying his trade in Morocco.

The club however has a history of bringing foreign players with big reputation only to fail to leave up to expectation. The likes of Ivan Mbowa, Evans Gwekwerere, Ivan Ntege, Pape Ndaw and Carl Finnigan all did not live up to their pre-arrival hype.

Mamelodi also said media reports about Jean Bertrand being offered a signing on fee of $40,000 are “nonsensical, irresponsible and devoid of any truth”. He said the player believes in the Rollers project. “He actually bought himself out of his running contract with Gasogi United,” Mamelodi said.
