The Expo will be held for a period of six months from October 1, 2021, until March 31, 2022.

As part of the Expo, Botswana seeks to showcase its emerging industries in prioritised sectors, connect these with projects and products from around the world to secure investment opportunities and joint-venture partnerships. Team Botswana also intends to identify trade opportunities.

Botswana Investment Trade Centre (BITC) has set up the Botswana Pavillion in a way that demonstrates the country’s cultural and economic assets to global audiences and present Botswana as an investment destination of choice.

On Thursday evening, the Minister of Investment Trade and Industry, Mmusi Kgafela officially opened the Botswana Pavilion, located within the Mobility District of the Expo.

According to BITC Corporate Communications director, Kutlo Moagi, the launch was due to be attended by investors in the diamond industry, Botswana and international media as well as stakeholders participating at the Expo.

"BITC’s participation at the Expo was critical given the need to resuscitate the economy following the impact of the pandemic," she said.

Furthermore Moagi said Botswana alongside 190 countries is ready to showcase the best the country has to offer and to also take advantage of business opportunities and partnerships that the Expo provides.

"Expo 2020 has opened its gates to the world with an expectation of over 25 million visitors over the next six months," she said.

The Expo has outlined a number of ‘Thematic Areas’ that present opportunities for collaborative partnerships with Botswana in various sectors. These include, among others, opportunities in global food supply chains, collaboration through Public-Private Partnerships, establishment of industries in renewable energy and solar technology, empowerment of youth and women into innovative and knowledge-based economic activities, participation in travel and tourism, as well as maximizing on opportunities that exist in human-centred public space such as housing, smart cities and e-transportation.
