Tanzanian soldier confirmed as fatality in SADC Forces raid in Mozambique

SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) spokesperson, Major Patrick Mfaladi says a Tanzanian soldier died in the weekend raid on a rebel camp in Mozambique in which SADC forces killed 17 terrorists.

Two other soldiers from Tanzania and one from Lesotho were injured.

The Saturday raid by SADC troops was on a terrorist base south of Chitama settlement in Nangade District, Cabo Delgado Province.

"The base was reduced to rubble by SAMIM forces," Mfaladi said by email this evening.

Another raid on Sunday resulted in one terrorist killed.

"During these follow up operations, a terrorist suspected to be a teacher has been captured and is currently being questioned."

Botswana and other SADC states deployed to Mozambique in July to help that government fight off a terrorist uprising in the northern Cabo Delgado province.
