MRS Botswana contestants unleash creativity

This year’s pageantry is the fifth edition since its first installment in 2015. Every year, contestants are asked to design an outfit which describes their personality. As it is a norm, this year’s aspiring queens fought with all they had to find themselves a slot in the top 14 category. After winning a slot in top 14, the contestants proceed to top seven finalists who will compete for the crown in the grand finale.
The ladies did not make the judges’ job any easier as they all came prepared and had designed gorgeous outfits. Amongst them was Ambrosia Samboko who was wearing a yellow beautiful long dress with touches of a green embroidery on the edges and a board at the back drown a cow. She explained that the dress represented the famer in her.
“Since the outbreak of COVID-19, I have realised how important and crucial food are for our country. Farming is not a job but a way of life. There is a Setswana saying that highlights that mosadi ke thari ya sechaba . Through farming I can be able to take care of my family and country by providing food security,” she said.
Gofaone Simon who was wearing a dress made of a German print (leteitshe) and traditional sack said the many pockets around the dress symbolises duties she carries as a wife, mother, daughter and a friend. She explained that traditionally the sack was used to store harvest. She added that leteise, symbolises her strength as a woman.
For her part, One Segobje designed a navy blue outfit with a dash of glittery black dress which she said was inspired by a Japanese concept known as Igagai meaning a reason to being. She said the concept was divided into four categories namely who you love, who you are just to mention but a few. “As a wife, I am a home builder and a supporter to my husband. I am also a mother to my children and being a mother is not easy. I social contribute through mentoring to young girls. I am a career woman, entrepreneur paid woman. I added the fifth concept which is being ready to use my purpose to bring positivity to my people,” she confidently said.
Letlhogonolo Khutshwane said she wore a black dress because in the previous year she had been through a lot. She further explained that the gold in her dress represented the hope she had saying even though the gold in her dress was small she knew her hope will eventually grow with time. She boldly told the gathering that no matter what she had been through she knew she was beautiful. She added that the long arms signifies that no matter what she goes through she would always extend help to her family and friends.
Even though the ladies had brilliant representations and made breath taking designs, the judges’ had to at the end of the day choose the top 14 from the 23 beautiful and brilliant contestants. The following women made it to top 14 Ambrociah Samboko, Tshepo Nkgwang, One Segobye, Amuchilani Joshua, Kgomotso Seloko, Christinah Bashapi, Mosanawe Tuelo, Itumeleng Mabutha, Portia Mokgathong, Galeboe Ramogae, Masego Kgosimore, Kearabile Kgwelokgwelo, Lekedzani Mokoloba and Patience Pelaelo.
These ladies would be selected to proceed to top seven through voting. Voting started this Wednesday and each lady can be voted using her code written under her name of MRS Botswana Facebook page. MRS Botswana grand finale will be held on October 30, 2021.
