The founder of Total Music group Seabelo Modibe, revealed that it had come to their attention that some artists still do not fully comprehend the BOMU Music Awards nomination process despite several communications about it. “No exception was made for any artists that did not meet the requirements as this would undermine the credibility of our judges, the awards process, BOMU,” he said.

Modibe further explained that the awards are open to registered members of the Botswana Musicians Union, citizens and non-citizens who have been in Botswana for 12 months prior to the 31 May 2021 closing date.

As succinctly outlined in the early stages of the awards submission process and during that exercise, Modibe said artists, music producers, videographers and artists’ managers making submissions for nomination were required to fill in an entry form and submit it via email or physically at the awards office. “Submissions had to include 4 Track EP/Full Album, Sleeve, Portrait Picture and a 100-word brief biography/profile of the entrant.

The next stage of the selection of nominations entailed a panel of nine reputable music judges drawn from Botswana Music Educators Association and Music Practitioners who independently adjudicated all submissions to reach the final list of nominees who are now vying for the respective categories,”Modibe further explained.

He said they categorically state that all artists who met the stipulated criteria and submitted their work for the period January 2019 to April 2020 had their work reviewed accordingly. He added that submissions that did not meet the entry criteria were not considered. “We hope that this clarifies any confusion and encourage all artists who have not registered with BOMU to do so, to qualify for all programmes, projects and other opportunities that come with being a registered BOMU member,” he concluded.
