Given the fact that there has been no football activity in the country since March last year, the two teams faced uphill battles against their opponents.

However, the two giants proved once again that they are growing in confidence on the continental stage. On Saturday, the Ostriches managed to overcome Mangasport at the National Stadium on penalties to set a date with Cameroonian side, Corton Sport in the next round. The CAF Confederations cup second leg tie game had ended 0-0 in normal time.

The two sides had also played to a 0-0 draw a fortnight ago in Gabon. Despite only arriving back in the country on Thursday, the Ostriches managed to beat fatigue and ensured that they do not concede at home against the visitors who were desperately looking for an away goal. Thabang Mosige, Galagwe Moyana and Mooketsi Tlhabano converted the spot kicks to give their side a 3-2 victory.

Jwaneng Galaxy also qualified for the first round of the CAF Champions League for the second time on Friday. Galaxy lost 1-0 to Central African Republic giants, Diplomat FC in the second leg of the preliminary round on Friday but managed to go throough with a 2-1 aggregate score. The current national champions had comfortably beaten their opponents 2-0 in the first leg played in Gaborone a fortnight ago. In the last edition of the competition, Galaxy were knocked out by South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round with an aggregate score of 5-1.

This time around, they have now booked another tricky date with Tanzanian giants, Simba FC. The Tanzanian side has proved to be a difficult side when they play in front of their home fans.
