Letshwiti Calls For United Front

He has been at the receiving end of criticism from former ally, Nicholas Zakhem who has made it clear that he regrets giving Letshwiti his second term at the helm of the association. The Gaborone United (GU) director has said there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Botswana football under Letshwiti's leadership.

There have also been reports that the BFA president could face an ouster when the association holds its general assembly next month, just a year after he won his second term. However, the BFA president has said the association has set out clear structures that stakeholders can access at any time. He said Botswana football is in need of a transformation, and they need to be progressive in their approach. "All stakeholders need to ensure maximum participation when fora to engage are set up, they need to ensure that the right people including those who will be responsible for implementation are included from the onset. This will ensure alignment of all on all the transformational projects that the BFA implement. Football is for all and as such we should want to work together for the good and benefit of the game,” Letshwiti said in a statement.

The BFA has been widely criticised for not doing much to ensure that football returns. However, Letshwiti said while COVID-19 pandemic has unfortunately halted football in communities across the country, the association has continued to engage key stakeholders to agree on the guidelines under which Botswana football can be played safely. “A lot can still be done and will be done to ensure the safe return of fans to stadiums.

These engagements are ongoing, and we believe a solid plan will soon be committed to by all. We can only ask our fans and the football community at large to know that what we say and how we behave in the media at large can and will shape the outcome of these engagements,” said Letshwiti.
