Tshenolo Mooketsi clinched the BOTTESSA open tournament over the weekend PIC: PHATSIMO KAPENG

This was Mooketsi's first championship in over two years since he lost his Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) top ranked spot early 2020. The now country's fourth ranked was in New Era College colors at the BUAN Hall held tournament. Mooketsi was in a fair final against Mosupi Modibu of the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

The BDF club player won the tie 4-0 to take a P2,000 pay check. In the women's section, Tshegofatso Matalo completed a New Era College double with a win over Thembile Montshiwa of BUAN. Matalo won the final tie 4-0 also taking home a P2,000 prize. Meanwhile, the country's top ranked woman, Tshepiso Rebatenne on Saturday finished on the third position at South Africa Regional Championship held in Bloemfontein. Rebatenne lost her semifinal match to Khanyisile Madlala of South Africa but went on the win the third place playoff match. In the men's section, Tirelo Tshipinare and Bakang Maloka were to face off in a quarter finals scheduled for Sunday (yesterday) afternoon.

It was however a poor display by the under-19 team at the championship. The trio of Sean Dekop, Kaone Moroke and Tsholofelo Gaokgalemelwe failed to qualify for the knockout rounds.
