Chopped clubs get reprieve

Notwane, Mogoditshane Fighters, Gilport Lions, Extension Gunners and Mahalapye Railways Highlanders had all failed to get licenses to participate in the 2021/2022 season.
The BFA said while the clubs had failed to comply, the association took into consideration the special circumstances brought about by COVID-19 in giving them a reprieve. However, in a statement released Wednesday evening, the BFA said the clubs are expected to comply during the season, or else the licenses will be withdrawn. “Non-compliance will not be condoned in the future from any club that wishes to be granted a Club License,” the BFA said.
The mother body emphasised the need for teams to fully adopt Club Licensing, a compliance requirement sanctioned by FIFA and CAF. “Member association, when audited and are found not to be complying with these regulations, also face sanctions. BFA has adopted Club Licensing to improve the level of professionalism in Botswana and Africa as a whole,” the statement reads.
“Taking into consideration that this is a first attempt to introduce professionalism in Botswana football, BFA will seek to continue to work with clubs and all stakeholders to instil an understanding and a proactive adoption of the compliance requirements and prepare all aspiring teams to empower themselves and ensure compliance to set regulation, now and in the future,” the BFA added.
