Reverend Thuso Tiego has since been detained and is reportedly charged for violating the Public Order Act and demonstrating without a permit along with two other pastors. The pastors are due to appear in court tomorrow morning.

Tiego was briefly held at the Broadhurst Police Station where some of his followers gathered and called for his release before they were violently dispersed. Scores of Tiego's supporters were also arrested.

Last week Tiego made a virtual protest via Facebook Live where he gave President Mokgweetsi Masisi seven days to resign from the presidency.

“President Masisi must resign. We cannot afford as a nation to continue like this when people are looting. We cannot take it anymore. This whole regime must resign. President Masisi must resign in seven days and I am counting,” he protested.
