Organisers of the awards, Total Music Group announced the nominees recently and Motsetserepa managed to show why he has not only become a top brand in comedy but in music as well. Motsetserepa was followed by MMP Family and Una Sell with four and three nominations respectively. Motsetserepa released an album called Tinto last year and due to that record, he has been nominated in categories of best new comer, best hip hop, best male, album of the year and song of the year.

The artist whose real name is Bofelo William Molebatsi was also nominated five times recently at the Yarona FM Music awards (YAMAS). The recent BOMU awards nominations now make it ten in total and he manages to win all the categories he has been nominated in both at the BOMU awards and YAMAs, Motsetserepa will make history. Motsetserepa is a talented artist who never anticipated international success. He is one the most followed public figure on social media in Botswana with over million followers.

Thanks to the video clip of Motsetserepa singing American megastar Chris Brown’s "Don't Wake Me Up", the comedian and rapper spread across social media and catapulted him to international stardom.

The artist who not so long ago feared that signing for a record label would kill his comic side seems to be handling both music and comedy very well. During the nominees launch, Director of Broadcasting Services Raymond Tsheko revealed that they will buy this year’s awards for P1.5 million. He said BOMU compelled them with a good concept and forced them to scratch their heads as a department.

Tsheko also said it is in their interest to grow and support the creative industry. “We have been creating a platform for all the players in the creative industry to benefit from our high tech facilities,” he revealed.

He said Botswana's quantity is still far from getting 80% of their airplay therefore they encourage artists to produce more quality videos. Meanwhile, BOMU President Phemelo Lesokwane said they celebrate the P500 000 that the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development contributed to the BOMU awards.

“We appreciate this gesture and this year for the first time after ten years BTV will be buying rights of the awards at this astonishing figure,” he said. Lesokwane also said they will be paying price money of P2500 for the winner. Lesokwane said he when he assumed the union’s top seat 15 months ago he found a broken organisation riddled with debts, lack of accountability and discipline.

“As a former soldier I have been cracking the whip. We have suspended and expelled members who wanted to do as they please,” he indicated.
