NEC to decide BFA assembly date

BFA’s annual meeting was delayed last year owing to COVID-19 and was only held in October.
The elective general assembly saw Maclean Letshwiti retained for a second term. The BFA president has faced criticism of late but recently hit back at his critics.
Eyes will be on the next General Assembly to see if there will be fireworks, where forces could be realigned.
It is said Letshwiti still has the support of the regions, although he could have shed some backing from Premier League teams facing the chop.
BFA chief executive officer, Goabaone Taylor said the dates of the next assembly will be determined at the next meeting. Last year’s gathering was virtual due to COVID-19 challenges and Taylor reckons a similar route could be pursued again.
“At the moment, it seems to be the most practical solution to hold a virtual meeting.
However, a decision will be made by the NEC,” Taylor said. A budget has not been drawn up, she said. Last year’s meeting cost around P500,000 due to the logistics of holding a virtual meeting.
“We are still to conclude on the budget as it is yet to be decided,” she said. Taylor said the key issues to be discussed at the meeting include the return to play implementation plan, motions from the regions as well as activity reports from the secretariat.
Taylor said it all points to further delays in the start of the Botswana Football League season due to COVID-19 restrictions. “The current COVID-19 restrictions have hampered the initial plan.
Further determination will be made in line with the prevailing circumstances but we believe BFL will be in a position to restart within the shortest possible time once the ban on sporting activities is lifted,” she said.
BFA granted the BFL autonomy although there have been questions on the nature of the independence. This could set the stage for the confrontation at the general assembly.
