BDP to beef up Sub-Committees

Even though the BDP has different committees, three critical ones that are the backbone of the party include the strategic, communication and political education committees.
The committees’ mandate has long expired alongside of the party central committee. Just like the party central committee, mandate for sub-committees expires every two years.
The BDP’s constitution gives the party president powers to appoint new members when the mandate of the structures elapses.
According to a reliable source, Masisi is expected to overhaul half of the communication and international relations subcommittee as some of the members are believed to be ineffective and therefore, not serving a good purpose for the party. Some of the names that may make it to communication sub committee include Tumy Modise and Godfrey Ganetsang. Kagelelo Kentse is also expected to make a comeback to the committee as chairperson.
“The reason why some members may not make it back to the committees especially at the communication one is that they are failing to defend the party when it is attacked on social media and other platforms. Some are said to be failing to do other tasks when assigned to do so especially for party activities,” the source said.
“Others are even alleged to be leaking certain information to the media. Now the members who are to be chosen, are the ones who are believed to be strong and could defend BDP and the President when under attack from the public especially during this time around when people are losing hope in the ruling party, BDP.”
The source added Modise and Ganetsang have been consistent in defending the party on social media and they could give themselves time to research on issues and that is what the BDP wants.
Another source said Masisi wants people who could have a good relationship with the media.
The other issue that the President is alleged to be complaining about according to the source is that the party should have an official spokesperson, who will be able to assist the media promptly.
In addition, the source said Masisi is still consulting with other party members regarding the strategic and political education committees because he wants members who will be able to work for the party tirelessly.
Masisi is said to be looking for members who would recruit more people into the party and come up with strategies that can make the BDP relevant.
When contacted for comment, BDP communication chairperson, Kentse said; “sub-committees are appointed by the President and it’s really up to him to configure them or make new appointments. It’s true mandate for sub-committees has expired”.
