This comes after the Ministry of Basic Education withdrew some funds from schools allocations. According to the director at the Ministry of Basic Education, Acro Maseko, this is necessitated by the fact that funds are required to pay salaries of temporary teachers effective August 01, 2021.

“This in our view is ill–informed. It points to a haphazard, uncoordinated and knee-jerk reaction to issues. It shows poor planning and highest level of disorder. How could you recall funds meant to purchase computer consumables and for maintaining future and equipment at areas where schools need the use of computers in learning and need more furniture more than any other time? There are schools that still compromise social distance protocol owing to lack of furniture,” Rari said in an interview today.

Funds for areas that are going to be affected include casual labourers, travel concession, transportation, subsistence allowance, hire charges, fire extinguishers, computer consumables, maintenance of buildings, seminars and workshops, furniture and equipment, livestock and sport equipment.
