FRAFA To Meet Again Over Unresolved Issues

The meeting descended into chaos after teams had different opinions about four members who were co-opted into the executive committee to replace some of those who resigned last year following the BFA National Executive Committee elections. Some clubs at the AGM were against the idea of co-opting. Teams spent much time debating matters surrounding the co-option in the process ignoring some key agenda items.

Twenty-seven participants were against the co-option, 17 participants welcomed it, while four members abstained. The results meant that the members which will be left in the committee, will only be three out of seven in number, which meant that there will not be able to form a quorum to hold a formal meeting.

The participants would later withdraw the decision of rejecting the co-opted members after being advised by Phutego that if they shunned the four members, it meant that the remaining three committee members cannot form a quorum, which would render the regional committee dysfunctional.

Phuthego noted that this would mean that all regional football activities in Francistown will be run from the secretariat office in Gaborone, something that would not be ideal.

The clubs however made a firm request that the committee members reshuffle, to position committee members according to their strength and capability, butthe meeting adjourned while the exercise was not completed due to unavailability of time. The BFA was later given the mandate to advise on the way forward.

“Another meeting will be organized where the remaining agenda items will be thoroughly discussed,” Phuthego said. Phuthego added that the proposed meeting will also give an opportunity for teams to reshuffle the committee according to the strengths of the co-opted members.

The four members who were co-opted in the committee are Thabo Nyambe, Ditsheko Dingalo (who were brought in as additional members), Obvious Moyo who was co-opted as the Vice Chairman and Lubu Matenge who was brought in as treasurer. Sources have told this publication that teams are pushing for Dingalo to swap roles with Moyo. They want Nyambe and Lubu to keep their positions.
