On Tuesday, Koontse Sobe Simon, 32, was arraigned before Magistrate Game Mooketsi for the alleged murder of Onkemetse Tlhomane on August 8, 2021, at Coloured location. Assistant Superintendent Mengistu Chigala made an application for Simon to remain in police custody. “Investigations in this matter are still at their initial stage. Residents of Coloured location arrested the accused after he allegedly murdered the deceased. Members of the public, who arrested the accused, inflicted injuries on his body.

We, therefore, fear that since members of the public and the family of the deceased are still angry about what happened to the deceased, it will be in the best interest of justice and the accused to be remanded in custody for his own safety,” Chigala said. When asked if he had anything to say about the application made by the prosecution, Simon said he had nothing to say. Magistrate Mooketsi then remanded the accused in custody until August 30 for the finalisation of investigations.

According to sources, the accused landed in trouble after he went to the deceased’s place to get his mattress, which he had left behind when he relocated.

The sources further alleged that after the accused arrived at the deceased’s place, conflict ensued when he told him that he had come to collect his mattress. In the melee, the accused allegedly stabbed the deceased three times with a knife, which led to his death.
