Okaile Gets Gunners’ Top Post

The former Gaborone United (GU) chairperson will now lead Gunners for the next four years, taking over from George Kerekang who has been at the helm since 2019. His arrival has brought hope to some Gunners supporters who have watched their club over the years struggling both on and off the field. Okaile will be assisted by Ketlhalefile Motshegwa who garnered 328 votes for the vice chairperson's position. Motshegwa beat former Gunners player, Brenda Ncenga who received 119 votes. Edwin Mabapa has managed to retain his position as the club’s secretary general.

Mabapa, like Okaile he was unopposed for the position. Benson Mere is the new vice secretary after beating Kelebogile Motladiile to the position. He garnered 263 votes while Motladiile received 190. Ivy Sesame received 261 votes to become the club’s new treasurer. She was contesting for the position against Odirile Phoga who received 213 votes. Phoga was the club’s treasurer going into Saturday elective meeting.

Legendary midfielder, Naphtally Kebalepile was not successful in his pursuit to become the team's manager. He only garnered 142 votes, losing to Bruno Masisi who managed who got 309 votes. Mpho Nkadimang and Brian Ketshabile were elected as the club’s new welfare manager and marketing manager respectively. Walker Kgosiesele is the new communications manager.

Speaking after the election, new chairperson, Okaile pleaded with the Gunners family to work together and take the club to greater heights. “Elections are meant to usher in leadership; it is not a battle. We are a committee of Extension Gunners, not for only that have voted for us,” Okaile said.
