Just a few days after leaving Orapa United, Zebras’ attacker Thero Setsile is said to have signed with Gaborone United (GU). Setsile left the Ostriches this week just four months into his two-year contract with the club.

Without stating reasons, the club on Wednesday put out a release to the press announcing the winger’s imminent departure as the club judged him as an ‘exceptional sportsman’. “It is with regret to announce the separation of Orapa United Football Club and Mr. Thero Setsile. Following several engagements, the two parties agreed to separate in accordance to the provisions of the engagement contract.” “Mr. Setsile joined OUFC in August 2021 in a two-year contract. During his former tenure, he demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and conduct.

He has been instrumental in our campaign in the CAF Confederations Cup and the success in our fixtures in the early 2021/2022 BPL season,” part of the statement from the club reads. Setsile leaves United with three goals this season. As per information reaching Mmegi Sport, the left footed winger has signed for GU with an official announcement to be made before January. “He has terminated his contract with Orapa because he was not happy with a number of things and hence did not enjoy his stay that side.

I can say he is a GU player, he has signed with the team. They have been chasing him even before he signed for Orapa. What is left is an announcement, which should be anytime between now and January. But he is a GU player, they put up an offer and he liked it,” a source explained. The source further said the player has been offered not less than P60,000 signing-on fee and will be among the club’s top earners. Contacted for comment, GU’s public relations officer, Romeo Benjamin was quick to shoot down the reports. “As far as we know he is an Orapa United player. We do not know any developments from that. So, to us he is an Orapa United player and I cannot say anything about a player that belongs to any other team other than GU. We have not signed him and we have not made any contact with him,” he said.

As per sources, Setsile’s signing is part of GU’s director Nicolas Zakhem’s final piece in building a ‘galatico’ with the Reds. Setsile will join elite players that include Lebogang Ditsele, Mpho Kgaswane and Thato Kebue who were all signed in the off-season. The Reds, on the other hand, continued their impressive form on the field as they edged struggling Mogoditshane Fighters 2-1 in the Botswana Premier League matches played on Tuesday. Flamingoes beat Morupule Wanderers 2-1 while BDF XI moved to the third spot with a 1-0 win over champions, Jwaneng Galaxy.

French gaffer, Romian Floz started life at Township Rollers with a 1-0 win over Notwane while Gilport Lions halted Extension Gunners’ three-match unbeaten run with a 2-0 win. The game between Orapa and Security Systems scheduled yesterday was postponed due to COVID-19 cases.
