Striker, Onkabetse Makgantai will be feeling he has a point to prove against his former side as Gaborone United (GU) and Orapa United lock horns at the National Stadium in a Botswana Premier League (BPL) tie.

Makgantai was unveiled as GU’s latest signing on Wednesday, making a switch from The Ostriches. He has signed an 18-month deal with the Reds as he itches for immediate action after not kicking the ball after being frozen out of match day squads at The Ostriches since mid-October. This was after, ‘Major’ was involved in a violent altercation with former teammate and Ugandan midfielder, Lawrence Ndunga, and both players have since left the team. Makgantai could be in the match day squad as the top two teams meet tomorrow.

He will be looking to make an instant impact in the red and white strip. The Reds enjoy a five-point lead at the top of the log, having had their most successful first half of the league campaign in recent years. GU have won 12 times in 15 games and lost just once while playing to a draw twice. Moyagoleele have the most goals this season, with 35 scored whilst they boost a very tight defence line that has conceded just seven times with the team sitting on an impressive 38 points. Makgantai is an addition to a firing attack that includes Thero Setsile who has scored seven goals since joining GU in January. Obonwe Maome is expected to orchestrate the team’s attack from the midfield. Maome has been involved in 23 of GU’s 35 goals. United go into the game looking to reduce the deficit on GU.
