The drawn out restructuring exercise of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) has been put on hold to allow discussions on the reorganisation of the umbrella sport body's governance structure, the organisation's Chief Executive Officer, Tuelo Serufho has said.

The exercise was supposed to be completed last year. “We are hoping to have concluded the discussions at the level of Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC), BNSC, Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and National Sport Associations (NSAs) in late January or early February 2022 at which point we will make a determination of how to proceed with the restructuring," Serufho said. This publication is informed that some employees are contemplating leaving the Commission due to uncertainty.

Some directors have already left, while others are on short-term contracts. It is unclear how many employees will be affected by the exercise expected to result in job losses.
