The senior national men’s cricket team sailed through to the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division six after walloping Ghana by eight wickets in a 50 Over match decider that was played in South Africa during the Easter holidays.

Botswana went into the match as the underdogs after suffering four T20 losses to Ghana and three defeats to Kenya, Namibia and Uganda during an ACA Division one tournament. Ghana closed the first innings with 143 runs, which Botswana found easy to surpass leaving the score line on 147 runs. The solid batting of Karabo Motlhanka and Izimam Master propelled Botswana to win the match, as the two batsmen scored 80 and 25 runs respectively.

The win means that Botswana will take part in the Pepsi ICC WCL Division six tournament that will be hosted by England in September this year. Other participating teams are Saudi Arabia, Fiji, Vanuata, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Suriname.
