Zambia’s polls marred by delays

LUSAKA: Unlike the controversial 2021 polls, this year’s Zambia general election has largely been largely peaceful so far, with voters turning out in numbers to exercise their democratic right. However, despite the calm atmosphere, the elections have not been without challenges.

Long queues have been reported at several polling stations, with some voters arriving as early as 2am in an effort to beat the crowds and cast their ballots early.

So far, they have recorded 98 election verified incidents reported at the Global Platform Zambia Network, which included security campaigns during election day, governance and human rights, under 18 children who were used to campaign, media and information risks and health and environment.
