Tlokweng District has approved 244 youth projects since the 2009–2010 financial year in a bid to boost young people’s participation in socio-economic development. However, despite significant investment, the projects continue to face challenges, particularly in loan repayment and sustainability.

The latest Tlokweng District Development Committee (DDC) report, which was presented recently during a full council meeting recently, reveals that 240 of the 244 approved projects were eventually funded. “Of these, 174, representing 72.5%, are currently operational and have created 339 employment opportunities,” the report states.

However, the report indicates that in the 2024–2025 financial year, only 18 youth projects were funded and remain operational.
