The people of Shakawe and Okavango Eastern Panhandle are forced to continue the struggle of crossing the Okavango River using the intermittent Mohembo ferry as the long-anticipated Okavango Bridge misses yet another opening deadline.

On June 18, some residents of Shakawe and Mohembo woke up early to go to the Okavango Bridge hoping to be the first members of public to go through the new bridge.

Earlier in the month, bridge engineer Kobamelo Kgoboko, who is the supervising consultant from CPP Botswana, told The Monitor that they would be finished with all the construction works by June 18.
