Police are investigating a case in which a man, aged around 20 years old, was hit by a car near Maotomabedi Feedlot along the B145, Lephephe-Shoshong Road, on Saturday night.

Assistant Commissioner Boiki Mojalemotho, a traffic officer in Southern Divisional, said the accident which occurred at around 10pm involved a single vehicle. He said the victim sustained serious head injuries and was certified dead upon arrival at Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole. Mojalemotho revealed the deceased didn't have any identification documents on him, and authorities are working to establish his identity. "He didn't have any form of identification document in his possession and we are trying to investigate the matter to establish his identity. "We don't know what happened in the accident; there is a possibility that he was attempting to cross the road whilst the vehicle was already close by or something else happened. "We have since engaged the investigating team to look into the matter and establish what transpired," he said.

Mojalemotho added that the Toyota RunX driver, a 48-year-old Motswana man, was driving alone and is currently in police custody for questioning. The senior traffic officer expressed concern over escalating pedestrian fatalities in the area and countrywide, urging pedestrians to exercise caution and wear reflective clothing when walking near roadways at night.
