FRANCISTOWN: An undocumented 19-year-old Zimbabwean appeared before the Francistown Magistrate Court today for the alleged murder of his countryman.
According to Matsiloje Police Station commander, Superintendent Oteng Ngada, they received a report regarding the death of a 49-year-old herder at Sekukwe Lands on Monday.
Sekukwe Lands is on the outskirts of Matshelagabedi village. Ngada further stated that following the discovery of a dead body, the police arrested an undocumented Zimbabwean teenage immigrant, who was found in possession of the deceased's phone.
He further said that the preliminary investigations suggest the teen's motive was to rob the 49-year-old herder. The deceased was also identified as an undocumented Zimbabwean immigrant.
“Those who aided both the suspect and deceased to maintain their unlawful residence in Botswana are likely to face the wrath of the law once the investigation is concluded,” he added.
Speaking about the incident, the Matsiloje police boss stated that when officers appeared at the scene, they found the body of the man with serious injuries and suspected foul play.
He said that the deceased was taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where he was certified dead.
