The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has commended Kgosikgolo Kgafela Kgafela II and his tribe for the spirited fight they are putting into the restoration of their chieftainship.

UDC’s head of communications, Moeti Mohwasa has welcomed the Judicial Commission recommendations, and commended the South African North West Premier, Professor Job Mokgoro for accepting and asserting the power of Kgosikgolo Kgafela as the supreme leader of Bakgatla both in Botswana and in South Africa.

“Bakgatla in Mochudi and Moruleng are one people.  The UDC agrees with the commission and the Premier that Bakgatla are one people and it is important to restore and retain the heritage and unity the tribe has enjoyed for over 200 years.  UDC believes that traditional leadership plays an important role in both local community and national development,” Mohwasa stated in a press release.
