UB probes Finance and Administration department

Merely a month after the suspension of a professor on allegations of academic plagiarism, University of Botswana (UB) has this week suspended yet another employee.

Mmegi is reliably informed that UB management suspended the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration, Lopang Albert Mosupi on allegations of incompetence and maladministration.

Public Affairs Director, Mhitshane Reetsang confirmed that the University is spearheading a probe on the Finance and Administration department.  “The suspension of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration was undertaken to create space for investigation proceedings.

It was only necessary to suspend him so that the university can establish the problems in the division he is heading,” said Reetsang.  “The university is not accusing him of misusing funds, but only trying to locate loopholes in our financial control.

As an investigator, you have to feel comfortable and free to efficiently carry out investigations.”

Mmegi has also established that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students Affairs, Professor Martin Mokgwathi recently tendered his resignation following his suspension. Reetsang could not dwell on the details surrounding Mokgwathi’s departure.
