In the first incident, a person living nearby found a 61-year-old man hanging from a tree in his yard at Malatswai. According to Serowe Police Station commander, Superintendent Akimo Mlazie, the deceased was discovered by the neighbour, who was shocked to find him hanging in the yard upon waking up around 6:25am. Mlazie said the deceased lived alone and did not leave behind a suicide note. In a separate incident in Serowe, police received a suicide report on Friday morning after a daughter discovered her father hanging outside their house. Mlazie stated the daughter had been with her father earlier that morning. “She woke up, made a fire and the two warmed themselves since it was a cold morning. The daughter said she later decided to go back to bed, leaving her father behind. “Whilst inside the house, she saw her father standing outside through the window and thought he was basking in the sun because it was a cold morning,” he explained. Mlazie said the daughter later went to check on her father after noticing that he was still in the same position, only to discover he had hung himself. “The daughter said her father had been sick for some time, and she did not know what could have driven him to commit suicide,” he said. “He had tied a rope inside the house, pulled it through the window and used it to hang himself. He also did not leave any message behind.” Police have launched investigations into both incidents.
