FRANCISTOWN: The trial of a former policeman who allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend continued for the second day on Wednesday.

Atlholang Mujangi is accused of gruesomely murdering Bokani Sox, a former nurse at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in January of 2014.

The fourth prosecution witness, Otsile Othusitse, told the court that she saw Mujangi for the first time on January 30, 2014 adding that she previously did not know him.

“I came to know Mujangi through my former workmate Mbati Kefentse. Kefentse told me that her mother had pleaded with her to take Mujangi for prayers at Pastor Sox of Breath of Life Church in Borolong because he was having some problems… I didn’t know that Pastor Sox was related to the deceased… I came to know about that through reading newspapers,” said Othusitse when being cross-examined by Mujangi’s attorney, Kgololesego Segabo.

“I also became aware of Mujangi’s problems from reading newspapers…. I did not hear Mujangi confessing before Pastor Sox that he killed the deceased when he had a one-on-one session with Pastor Sox.”

Othusitse added that the allegations that Mujangi is currently facing were the talk of the town in 2014 as many people talked about them at different places.

Bokani’s niece, Semakaleng Sox, who was called to testify or give evidence about the clothes that Bokani was allegedly wearing before or when she met her fate, said she knew Mujangi since she used to see him at Bokani’s place at Tati Siding.

She stated that she managed to identify the blouse that Bokani was allegedly wearing before or when she died as she was with Bokani when Bokani purchased the blouse at CB Stores on December, 2013.

In relation to the jean that Bokani was allegedly wearing before or when she died, Semakaleng said she just knew the tight jean by its colour, size and design.

The case, which is scheduled for the whole week before Justice Lot Moroka, was prematurely stopped after counsel Carlos Diwundu for the prosecution asked for time to go for medical attention since he was not feeling well.

The key state witness in the matter, Pastor Sox, who allegedly spilled the beans to the police that Mujangi confessed to having killed his cousin Bokani during a one-on-one session with him (Pastor Sox) will testify on Thursday.

Legal experts are of the view that Pastor Sox’s testimony may make or break the State’s case.

Sources close to the case have revealed that there is audio evidence recorded by Pastor Sox in which Mujangi can allegedly be heard confessing that he killed Bokani.
